Location. The Port Inn in Portsmouth, N.H., offers a picturesque setting within two miles of downtown Portsmouth and five miles from the beach. The outdoor Strawberry Banke history museum and the Seacoast Science Center Aquarium & Museum are two miles from the inn. Several maritime sights punctuate the area as well, such as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, used for the building and repairing of Navy ships. The campus of the University of New Hampshire is within 10 miles.

Expert Tip. A little known fact about the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is that it hosted the 1905 Treaty of Portsmouth, ending the Russo Japanese War. President Theodore Roosevelt, who worked to facilitate the treaty, was awarded the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. In the summer 2005, a series of events were held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the treaty signing.
